Abstract

European Portuguese has a complex system of address forms. These forms are pragmatic elements of the language, their importance is interactional, and when it comes to teaching, they are often poorly explained, practiced, and assessed in the materials. In the present article, I analyze the importance of these forms, present one of the most comprehensive charts developed on this topic and examine this issue in three teaching books.
