Carlo Michelstaedter and Mikhail Bakhtin: Intuitions, Communication and Rhetoric

This paper aims to establish a connection between Carlo Michelstaedter's thesis, La persuasione e la rettorica, and Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of discursive genres, presented in Aesthetics of Verbal Creation. It highlights the importance of discursive analysis and the interrelation between the individual and the institution, as well as the active role of both the listener and the speaker in communication. Michelstaedter argues that discourse must motivate action, emphasizing the need for dialogue and persuasion. On the other hand, Bakhtin underscores the interaction between statements and social responses. This work intends to explore both authors' theories to reflect on the criticism of institutions and the relevance of active listening in communication.
